Active Voice to Passive Voice:

First, in the simple Tenses so that you can understand easily.

Voice Change of Simple Present Tense

1. He reads a poem.

-A poem is read by him.

Voice Change of Simple Past Tense

1. He read a poem yesterday.

- A poem was read by him yesterday.

Voice Change of Simple Future Tense

1. He will read a poem tomorrow.

- A  poem will be read by him tomorrow.

Next, in the continuous Tenses.

Voice Change of Present Continuous Tense

1. He is reading a poem now.

- A poem is being read by him now.

Voice Change of Past Continuous Tense

1. He was reading a poem.

- A poem was being read by him.

Voice Change of Future Continuous Tense

1. He will be reading a poem.

- A poem will be being read by him.

Next, in Perfect Tenses.

Voice Change of Present Perfect Tense

1. He has read a poem just now.

- A poem has been read by him just now.

Voice Change of Past Perfect Tense

1. He had read a poem.

- A poem had been read by him.

Voice Change of Future Perfect Tense

1. He will have read a poem.

- A poem will have been read by him.

 Next, in Perfect Continuous Tense.

Voice Change of Present Perfect Continuous Tense

1. He has been reading a poem for two hours.

- A poem has been being read by him for two hours.

(Present Perfect Continuous Tense is not commonly used in Passive Voice)

 Voice Change of Past Perfect Continuous Tense

1. He had been reading a poem.

- A poem had been being read by him.

(Past Perfect Continuous Tense is not commonly used in Passive Voice)

1. The English speaks English.

2. The Assamese speaks Assamese.

- A long poem is being written by him.

4. The boy killed the bird.

- The bird was killed by the boy.

5. They elected him president.

- He was elected president.

6. What are you doing?

- What is being done by you?

7. We are not listening to him.

- He is not being listened to by us.

8. They made me principal.

- I was made principal.

9. Are you drawing a picture?

- Is a picture being drawn by you?

10. They elected him secretary.

- He was elected secretary.

11. He has done the deed.

- The deed has been done by him.

12. She was beating her pet dog.

- Her pet dog was being beaten by her.

13. The farmers have been ploughing the field.

- The field has been being ploughed by the farmers.

14. Why are you making a noise?

- Why is a noise being made by you?

15. People are admiring this young girl.

- This young girl is being admired by people.

16. He dreamt a dream.

- A dream was dreamt by him.

17. Is the gardener watering the plants?

- Are the plants being watered by the gardener.

18. She was sewing the cloth.

- The cloth was being sewed by her.

19. The farmer has tilled the field.

- The field has been tilled by the farmer.

20. She will make tea for them.

- Tea will be made by her for them.

21. I have not bought a new bike.

- A new bike has not been bought by me.

22. He gave me a pen.

- A pen was given to me by him.

(Here, 'me' is 'retained object', because it is used as an object in both Active Voice and Passive Voice.)

or, I was given a pen by him.

23. I fought a fight.

- A fight was fought by me.

24. He runs a race.

- A race is run by him.

25. She wrote a letter.

- A letter was written by her.

- Was money wasted by you?

27. He is building a building.

- A building is being built by him.

- It regretted that he has died.

- It is said that he is honest.

- The book was written by Shakespeare.

47. The Principal teaches us English.

- We are taught English by the Principal.

- A job was offered to me.(by them)

50. The people of Assam speak Assamese.

- Assamese is spoken by the people of Assam.

51. He gave me an interesting book.

- An interesting book was given to me by him.

- The laws of the Universe cannot be changed.

53. They promised Mary a new doll for her birthday.

- Mary was promised a new doll for her birthday.

54. The doctor has ordered me a new diet.

- A new diet has been ordered me by the doctor.

55. They have made Rahim manager of the farm.

- Rahim has been made manager of the farm.

56. The owner himself shows them the house.

- The house was shown them by the owner himself.

57. The early man hunted food in jungles.

- Food was hunted by the early man in jungles.

58. His behaviour vexes me sometimes.

- I am vexed at his behaviour sometimes.

59. The audience loudly cheered  the Mayor's speech.

Very Important:

Change the Voice:

1. Passive: My bicycle has been stolen.

Active: Someone has stolen my bicycle.

2. Passive: Let the game be finished.

Active: Finish the game.

3. Passive: He is expected soon.

Active: We expect him soon./ I expect him soon.

4. Passive: Rome was not built in a day.

Active: The Romans did not build Rome in a day. 

Now, Passive Voice to Active Voice:

1. English is spoken all over the world.

- People speak English all over the world.

2. Rose is called the queen of flowers.

- We call rose the queen of flowers.

3. The camel is called the ship of desert.

- We call the camel the ship of desert.

4. Promises should be kept.

- We should keep our promises.

5. Duty should be done.

- One should do one's duty.

6. Lies are told everywhere.

- People tell lies everywhere.

7. Elders should always be respected.

- One should always respect one's elders.

8. It is time for tea to be taken.

- It is time to take tea.

9. Sugar is sweet when it is tasted.

- Sugar tastes sweet.

10. It is said that truth is evergreen.

- People/We say that truth is evergreen.

11. He is said to be a saint.

- They say that he is a saint.

12. We were given a test yesterday.

- The teacher gave us a test yesterday./ The teacher gave a test to us yesterday.

13. It is expected that he will get well soon.

- We expect that he will get well soon.

34. The room was filled with smoke.

- Smoke filled the room.

35. Guwahati is called the gateway to the North- East.

Important Voice Change

Of Imperative Sentences

1. Do the work.

- Let the work be done.

2. Please do the work.

- You are requested to do the work.

3. Do not tell a lie.

- You are prohibited to tell a lie./You are advised /warned not to tell a lie.

4.Do not cross the road.

- You are asked not to cross the road.


Now, very important Voice Change:

Sentences with Can, May, Could, Might and Must.

1. You may take the book now.

- The book may be taken by you now.

2. Reena may marry you next year.

- You may be married to Reena next year.

3. Can you lift this box?

- Can this box be lifted  by you ?

4.You must help me.

- I must be helped by you.

5. We should obey our parents.

- Our parents should be obeyed by us.

6. I could have done this.

- This could have been done by me.

7. I would have done this.

- This would have been done by me.
